Men's Soccer Edged by Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Christian D'Ascenzo scored his first career goal with 1:26 to play, but the Ursinus College men's soccer team was unable to make up the remaining ground in a 2-1 Centennial Conference loss at Gettysburg in Saturday's season finale.

D'Ascenzo found the back of the net on a rip from the top of the box in the 89th minute, giving freshman Alexis Ayala his second assist of the season for the Bears (2-13-1, 0-9).

Gettysburg (13-4, 7-2) seized an early 1-0 lead on Sam Lerman's goal just 5:29 into the match. Ayala, fellow rookie Noah Kilday, and junior Ben Amaral all put shots on goal in the first half, but Bullets keeper Max Karen was equal to the task.

Patrick Santini scored his CC-leading 20th goal of the season in the 52nd minute, intercepting a throw-in and dribbling around the keeper for a shot into a wide-open net.

Ayala forced another save from Karen in the 78th minute before setting up D'Ascenzo's milestone marker.

Junior Brandon Lillian finished with four saves between the pipes for Ursinus, which was outshot 15-6.
