Men's Soccer Falls to McDaniel in CC Opener

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus College men's soccer team fell to McDaniel on the road, 4-2, in its Centennial Conference opener on Saturday.

The scoring exploded following a slow first half, but it was too little and too late for the Bears (2-3, 0-1).

The Green Terror jumped out to a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the match, thanks to a goal from Raul Escobar.

The Bears only trailed by the one score at the half, but a McDaniel shot found the back of the net a few minutes into the second half. Ursinus committed an own goal just 24 seconds later, digging itself an even deeper hole.

Colin Klingman got the Bears on the board by converting a penalty kick at the 56:15 mark for the first goal of his career. The sophomore had a second scoring chance about a minute later, but the attempt was reeled in by McDaniel keeper Nick Over.

Ursinus' other goal came on an own goal committed by the Green Terror.

It was a physical battle and both sides had trouble staying disciplined, as seven cards were handed out – including one red – along with 22 fouls.

The Bears offense couldn't seem to find a rhythm in the contest, and was only able to muster up four shots in each frame with only half on target.

It's the third year in a row that Ursinus was not able to find the winning recipe against the Green Terror. The two sides tied in each of the last two seasons following a 3-2 Bears win in 2014.

Ursinus returns home for its next match, kicking off a three-game home slate starting with Kean on Wednesday.
