Men's Soccer nipped by Scranton, 2-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – University of Scranton senior midfielder Joseph Burbella netted two goals, including a penalty kick with 51 seconds remaining the first half as the Royals (1-2-2) defeated Ursinus (1-4) 2-1 Wednesday night in a spirited men's soccer matchup at Patterson Field.

Burbella's attempt on the penalty kick went just underneath the cross bar as the Royals grabbed their first win of the year.

Ursinus got a goal from freshman defender Richie Schultz (Village Shires, Pa./The George School) in the 44th minute on a pass senior forward Jean Carlo Cordova (Quito, Ecuador/Spring-Ford) in the middle of the field.

Burbella scored his first goal at 34:28 on a break away.

Ursinus had a chance to tie the score in the 71st minute, but, a shot by sophomore forward Ricky Griffith (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) hit the post.

Ursinus, who held a 10-9 advantage in shots, hosts Gettysburg on Friday afternoon in its Centennial Conference opener.
