Men's Soccer takes down Alvernia, 1-0, in double overtime

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – On an unseasonably hot fall day, the Ursinus College men's soccer team kept fighting and fighting on Wednesday afternoon in their non-conference match against Alvernia.

With just nine seconds left in the second overtime, junior midfielder Andrew Machalick (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) headed home a pass from senior defender Kyle Shelton (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) as the Bears (1-5) got their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over the Crusaders (5-2-1).

Machalick's header found the right corner of the net past Alvernia goalkeeper Ben Diller for the win.

The Bears pounded out 29 shots to 23 for the Crusaders.

Junior goalkeeper Mike Alfieri (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) made nine saves in the win, with the Bears also netting two team saves on the goal line.
