COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall junior
midfielder Giuseppe Bua scored the game-winning goal with just 1:52
left in the second overtime as the Diplomats (9-5-2, 5-2-1
Centennial) defeated Ursinus (3-10-2, 0-7-1 Centennial) 2-1
Thursday afternoon at Wilkes Field.
Bua scored the game-winner on a scrum in front of the net, giving
the Diplomats the last spot in the Centennial Conference
tournament.
For Ursinus, sophomore goalkeeper Mike Alfieri (Mount
Laurel, N.J./Lenape) was a wall for the Bears as he
stopped 16 shots as the Diplomats outshot the Bears 43-10.
Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute when sophomore forward
Chris Polster (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards)
scored his first goal of the season on an assist from sophomore
midfielder Andrew Machalick (Mountaintop,
Pa./Crestwood) off of a free kick for a 1-0 lead.
F&M tied the score at 1-all in the 70th minute when freshman
midfielder Mike Irving scored on an drive from midfield.
For the Diplomats, junior goalkeeper Zach Zamek had two saves.
Ursinus closes the season on Saturday at Muhlenberg.
