O'Donoghue Earns CC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus College men's lacrosse senior Patrick O'Donoghue was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

It is the first CC weekly honor for O'Donoghue, who helped spark the Bears' come-from-behind victory over Mary Washington on Saturday. The senior caused three turnovers and collected a career-high ten ground balls, the most by an Ursinus player in two years, as 14th-ranked Ursinus overturned a 5-3 deficit with a run of six unanswered goals over the last 27 minutes.

One of O'Donghue's ten grounders led directly to the game-tying strike. He collected a rebound off a shot that rang the post, then quickly passed up-field to ignite an incisive transition that culminated in a fast-break marker from freshman Peter DeSimone, pulling the Bears even at 5 with 9:27 to play in the third quarter.

Through the first two games of the season, O'Donoghue ranks third in the CC in ground balls (11) and is tied for second in caused turnovers (6).

The men's lacrosse team kicks off a three-game road swing at Frostburg State on Saturday, March 5.
