Men's lacrosse rips Muhlenberg 16-9.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus men's lacrosse team eyeing a seat in the playoffs did their part by defeating Muhlenberg 16-9, at Scotty Wood Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Bears improved their record to 9-6, 3-4 in the Centennial Conference. Ursinus needed a win by McDaniel over Gettysburg to slide into the final spot in the playoffs. In a game that came down to the wire Gettysburg topped McDaniel 16-15 knocking the Bears out of the playoffs.

Steve Smyrl and Logan Panaccione both led the Bears with 3 goals each  and Smyrl added two assists on the day.

In the first quarter the Bears and Mules traded goals in a defensive battle tied 2-2, going into the second quarter.

The Mules began to pull away in the second quarter with three quick goals within the first four minutes. But the Bears didn't panic, grinding out three goals from Panaccione, Dylan Spangenberg and with 46 seconds remaining in the half, Rob Dewey put the Bears up 6-5.

Ursinus broke out in the third quarter scoring six straight goals while holding the Mules scoreless.  In the final 45 seconds Smyrl took control scoring two goals within 19 seconds of each other, and 20 seconds later Ryan Ridger finished the quarter with a goal of his own, the Bears up 12-5.

In the fourth quarter the Bears held on to their comfortable lead adding another three goals finishing off the Mules 16-9.
