Men's Lacrosse downed by F&M, 13-8

LANCASTER, Pa. – In a game of runs, Franklin & Marshall scored the first three of the game in 1:22, then scored seven straight starting in the second quarter as the Diplomats (7-2, 2-0 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (5-3, 1-1 Centennial) 13-8 in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night.

Ursinus rallied from the early deficit to tie the score at 6-all, before going on a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead and never looked back. 

Ursinus was led by two goals from junior attack Mark Stratton, who also added in two assists on the night. Sophomore attack Tucker Noel scored two as well, along with senior midfielder Dylan Spangenberg. Junior midfielder Steve Smyrl added a goal and an assist. 

Trailing 3-0, Ursinus got on the board 3:53 into the first when Noel scored his fifth goal of the season on an assist from junior attack Mike Neal. After a goal by F&M which gave the Diplomats a 4-1 lead, Ursinus scored two straight to end the quarter as Stratton scored with 3:50 left, while Spangenberg scored with 1:16 left to get within one.

Down two at the start of the second quarter, extra-man goals each from Spangenberg and Stratton  with the last coming with 2:18 into the quarter tied the score at 5-all. 

Smyrl's lone goal at 6:30 into the second tied the score at 6-all, before F&M went on its seven-goal run. 

Sophomore attack Steve Mussoline's goal with 2:55 left in the fourth ended the run, while Noel added his second with 1:26 left in the game on an assist by Stratton. 

Senior midfielder Shawn Caven scooped up 12 ground balls as he was 19-for-23 on faceoffs, while freshman midfielder Matthew Cioeta had three caused turnovers. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Neff made 11 saves for Ursinus, who hosts Dickinson Saturday.
