Weber nets four in MLax win over Wheaton (Mass.)

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus peppered the cage with 61 shots on Saturday in their non-conference tilt with Wheaton (Mass.), coming away with a 14-7 win over the Lyons (2-4) in men's lacrosse play.

Junior midfielder Jake Weber (Lititz, Pa.) accounted for four goals and one assist, while junior attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa.) scored three times in the win. Senior midfielder Dylan Spangenberg (Downingtown, Pa.) and senior faceoff specialist Shawn Caven (Yardley, Pa.) each had two goals on the day.

Sophomore attack Logan Panaccione (Hillsborough, N.J.) dished out three assists, including an outstanding play in which, while falling, he lobbed the ball to Caven for a goal.

Leading 8-5 at intermission, Ursinus allowed the Lyons just two goals in the second half and finished the game by outscoring the Lyons 10-2 when Wheaton took a 5-4 lead with 7:04 left in the second quarter.

Wheaton got a game-high five goals from junior attack Matthew Hillman and two assists each from freshman attack Barrett Jenness and freshman attack Willi Morrison.

Individually, Caven was 14-for-18 on faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls. Junior defender Ryan Ridinger had six ground balls as well, and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Neff, who had six ground balls himself, made 11 saves.

Ursinus travels to Eastern on Tuesday.
