Saturday Night's Alright For MLax in 12-7 win over Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Ursinus sophomore Dylan Spangenberg  (Downingtown, Pa./Malvern Prep) scored four goals, while Taylor Allen added in three goals as the Bears (6-8, 2-5 Centennial) defeated Muhlenberg (2-11, 0-7 Centennial) 12-7 Saturday night in the rain.

The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Ursinus.

Freshman attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) added in two goals and three assists in the win, while senior midfielder Andrew Kirlin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) had two assists.

After giving up the game's first goal, Ursinus scored the next four to take a 4-1 lead with 8:15 left in the second on back to back man-up goals by Spangenberg. Smyrl assisted on both goals.

Leading 4-2 at intermission, Ursinus scored the second half's first three goals, including another extra-man goal by Spangenberg at the 11:48 mark..

Ursinus took its largest lead in the game at 10-3 with 2:09 left in the third on a goal by Smyrl.

Individually, sophomore Shawn Caven (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had eight ground balls, while he went 10-for-20 on faceoffs. Junior defender Buddy Ferro (Clifton Heights, Pa./Episcopal Academy) had four ground balls in the win.

Junior goal keeper T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./St. Mark's) had 11 saves in the win.

Ursinus will host Washington next Saturday in the season finale.
