Haverford runs past MLax, 15-5

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford's Phillip Valliant scored five goals as the Fords (5-7, 3-3 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (5-8, 1-5 Centennial) 15-5 on Wednesday night in men's lacrosse play.

Ursinus got three goals from senior midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas) and one goal each from freshman attack Mark Stratton (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) and freshman attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) in the loss.

Ursinus rallied to within two at 6-4 in the second quarter with 2:30 left on a goal by Smyrl, but, Haverford got two in the last 2:14 to go up 8-4 at intermission.

In the second half, Ursinus was outscored 7-1.

Individually, senior midfielder Mike Bloom (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and sophomore forward Dewey Stierer (Phoenix, Md./Boys' Latin) each had three ground balls.

Junior goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./St. Mark's) had four saves in the loss.

Ursinus goes to Muhlenberg on Saturday night.
