MLax pushes fifth-ranked Lynchburg to limit before falling 9-8

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ursinus College men's lacrosse team pushed fifth-ranked Lynchburg to the limit on Wednesday night, as the Bears (5-4) fell to the Hornets (9-1) 9-8 in a game played at Georgetown University.

The Bears held a 5-4 intermission lead before Lynchburg went on a 4-0 run to take a three-goal lead.

Still, Ursinus was able to get within one goal at 9-8 with 12 seconds left. The Bears won the faceoff and get off a shot in the final seconds but it did not find the back of the cage.

Ursinus did have a two-goal lead at two portions of the second quarter before Lynchburg made run.

Mark Stratton had two goals and two assists on the day, with Dave Kraus going for two goals including an extra-man goal in the first quarter.

Ursinus' biggest lead came with 5:44 to go in the second quarter when Stratton scored his first of the game on an assist by Steve Smryl.

Ursinus was able to get back to within one at the end of the third quarter as Stratton scored on a Jake Weber assist at 4:26, then Kraus added his first at 2:34 on an assist from Dylan Spangenberg.

Kraus' second goal of the game, off a Stratton assist, came with 12 seconds left to put Ursinus within one.

Goalkeeper T.J. Magnani made 14 saves on the evening for Ursinus, who will travel to Eastern Saturday.
