Men's Lacrosse falls to 8th-ranked Dickinson, 11-4

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Eighth-ranked Dickinson raced out to a 6-1 lead before Ursinus cut the deficit to three at 6-3, but, the Red Devils (8-1, 2-0 Centennial) fended off the rally in an 11-4 win over the Bears (5-3, 1-2 Centennial)

Ursinus was led by two goals from Freshman attack Mark Stratton (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) while freshman midfielder Jake Weber (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) and  sophomore midfielder Dylan Spangenburg (Downingtown, Pa./Malvern Prep) each contributed one.  Stratton and freshman attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) each added two assists.

Ursinus had trailed 6-1, before Weber scored with 25 seconds left on an extra-man goal from Stratton. Stratton assisted on the next goal by Spangenberg 34 seconds into the third quarter.

Ward Gruppo had three goals for Dickinson, with Sam Greenberg scoring two and Matt Cherry taking a goal and an assist.  

Sophomore faceoff specialist Shawn Caven (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had two ground balls and was 8-for-15 on faceoffs on the day. Freshman defender Bob Harding (Downingtown, Pa./Malvern Prep) had a team-high four ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Jimmy Stanley (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) had three caused turnovers.

In goal, junior T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./St. Mark's) had six saves in the loss. Senior goalkeeper Matt Columbini (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) played in the latter part of the second quarter.

Greg Hanley made 11 saves for Dickinson in the win.

Ursinus will travel to Georgetown University in Washington D.C. to face off against Lynchburg on Wednesday night. This will mark the third ranked team Ursinus has faced this season.
