Second half surge

LANCASTER, Pa. – Homestanding Franklin & Marshall outscored Ursinus 7-1 in the second half as the Diplomats (7-1, 2-0 Centennial) defeated the Bears (5-2, 1-1 Centennial) 12-6 in men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears had rallied from a 3-1 deficit early in the first quarter to forge a 3-all tie with one second left in the first quarter, then had 5-4 lead in the second quarter before F&M went on a 4-0 run to take the lead for good.

Ursinus was led by two goals from freshman attack Mike Neal (Shelby Township, Mich./De La Salle) and freshman attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), while senior midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas) and junior attack Taylor Allen (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport) each had one. Freshman attack Mark Stratton (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) chipped in with an assist.

Sophomore faceoff specialist Shawn Caven (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had six ground balls and was 6-for-19 on faceoffs on the day.

In goal, junior T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./St. Mark's) had ten saves in the loss.

Ursinus will host Dickinson on Saturday.
