SALISBURY, Md. – In the first meeting between the two schools, top-ranked Salisbury (6-0) took a 13-0 halftime lead on its way to a 16-4 win over Ursinus (2-1) in men's lacrosse play on Wednesday afternoon on the peninsula.
Despite the score, Ursinus played extremely hard against the top-ranked and defending national champions.
In the second half, Ursinus outscored Salisbury 4-3 and out shot the Sea Gulls 21-16.
Four different players scored for Ursinus, as senior attack Dave Kraus (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), freshman midfielder Jake Weber (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township), junior attack Taylor Allen (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport) and sophomore midfielder Dylan Spangenberg (Downingtown, Pa./Malvern Prep) each had goals.
Freshman midfielder Ian Moore (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven), freshman attack Mike Neal (Shelby Township, Mich./De La Salle) and freshman attack Steve Smyrl (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) each had assists.
Junior goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./St. Mark's) made 14 saves on the afternoon as he faced 45 shots.
Junior defender Buddy Ferro (Clifton Heights, Pa./Episcopal Academy) grabbed six groundballs for Ursinus, who will host Richard Stockton on Saturday.
