DOVER, Del.
– Paced by four goals from sophomore midfielder Jeff
Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas), the Ursinus College
men’s lacrosse team improved to 3-0 for the first time since
2007 as the Bears defeated Wesley (0-4) 9-6 on Wednesday night in
non-conference play.
Ocampo scored four goals and added in an assists,
while senior midfielder Eric Farris (Pottsgrove,
Pa./Pottsgrove) and senior attack Dan Monzo
(Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) also scored two goals in
the win. Farris added two assists.
Trailing 2-0 just 4:39 in, Ursinus scored five
straight goals to take a 5-2 lead with 5:15 left in the third.
Ocampo scored his first two goals, one with 9:07 left in the first,
and his second with 12:16 left in the first half on an assist from
Farris.
Ursinus scored two goals in the last 32 seconds
of the half, as sophomore attack David Kraus (Madison,
Conn./Daniel Hand) scored with 32 seconds left in the
second for a 3-2 lead, followed by a goal form Ocampo with eight
seconds left in the half for a 4-2 lead at intermission.
With 5:15 left in the third, Monzo scored on a
goal from Farris for a 5-3 lead. Wesley would answer back, before
Ursinus scored an extra man goal with nine seconds left as Monzo
scored on an assist from Ocampo.
Farris scored his first goal with 9:58 left in
the fourth for a 7-3 Bears lead. After Wesley added one with 4:51
left, Ocampo scored with 3:56 left, followed by a goal form Farris
with 3:04 left for a 9-4 lead.
Freshman goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (Bear,
Del./Saint Mark’s) had ten saves in the win, while
Kraus picked up four groundballs.
Ursinus goes to Eastern on
Saturday.
