Men's Golf Tees up Spring Campaign

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's golf team opened spring competition at the Rosemont Invitational this weekend, shooting a two-day 686 to finish 12th in a field of 19 squads.

The Bears lowered their Saturday score (351) by 16 strokes on Sunday, as each of their top four golfers scored 87 or better on the par-72, 6642-yard course at Downingtown Country Club.

Freshman Ryan Hodgdon led the way for Ursinus, carding a two-day 167 (+23) to tie for 35th overall in a field of nearly 100 entrants. The rookie, who shot 85 in the first round, made nine pars during a second-round 82, including seven for a 38 on the back nine.

Fellow freshman Brian Barrett was tied for 49th with a 170 (83-87, +26); he recorded eight pars for an 83 on Saturday.

Junior Ryan Crawford was the Bears' top performer on Sunday, signing for an 81 that featured nine pars and a birdie on the par-4 10th. Crawford had two of the team's three birdies over the weekend, the other coming on the par-4 4th on Saturday.

After shooting 97 on Saturday, sophomore Noah Steiner rebounded to fire a career-low 85 in the second round, which included a 40 on the back nine holes. Steiner hit the other birdie for Ursinus, joining Crawford with a 3 on the 4th hole.

Freshman Jack Bagnell finished with a two-day total of 184 (91-93).

The Bears are back on the course on Monday, when they compete in the LVC Dutchmen Invitational at Lebanon Country Club.
