GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's basketball team ended the regular season on a sour note, dropping a 74-69 Centennial Conference decision at Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.

With the setback, the Bears dropped to 11-7 in league play and will be the fifth seed in next week's CC playoffs. Ursinus will travel to fourth-seeded Johns Hopkins for the first-round contest at a time to be determined. The Blue Jays swept the regular-season series, but the two wins came by a combined five points.

Junior Zach Quattro led three players in double figures for Ursinus (14-11, 11-7) with 15 points and nine rebounds, with sophomore Eric Williams Jr. adding 14 and senior Matt Knowles 13. The Bears made 13 3-pointers to just five for the Bullets. Ursinus, however, had no answer for Cody Kiefer, who led all players with 31 players and 11 rebounds, and Gettysburg shot 51.9 percent for the afternoon (28 of 54).

Ursinus led 9-4 early before Kiefer sparked a 12-0 run with a pair of triples, and the first half developed into a see-saw affair from there. The Bears went up 35-29 on back-to-back buckets by sophomore Joseph LoStracco before Gettysburg (9-16, 8-10) got seven straight points from Kiefer and took a slim 38-37 edge into the halftime break. Kiefer had 21 points and seven boards in the first half alone.

The visitors still had the upper hand after a bucket by sophomore Matt Williams made it 47-42 with 15:20 to play, but the Bears went the next six minutes without a point as the Orange and Blue took control. The Bullets reeled off 14 unanswered markers, capped by a three-point play from Kiefer, to go up 56-47 at the 9:26 mark.

The Bears got within three (61-58) on a conventional three-point play by sophomore Zack Muredda with 5:29 to go, but Alec Warren answered with a 3-pointer to double the margin. A lay-up by Quattro and 3-pointer by Knowles, sandwiched around a lay-up by Danny Duffey, cut it to 68-66 with 1:58 remaining before Kiefer's jumper restored a four-point advantage. Pete Christ knocked down two free throws to make it 72-66, rendering a late 3-pointer by Knowles all but meaningless.

Mlynue Reeves had 14 points on 7-for-8 shooting for Gettysburg, which got 10 points from Duffey.

Muredda finished with six points and seven rebounds and Matt Williams collected seven points for Ursinus.
