Williams Jr. Awarded CC Player of the Week Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore Eric Williams Jr. of the Ursinus College men's basketball team was awarded Centennial Conference Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Williams Jr. averaged 17.0 points per game on 52.4-percent shooting (11 for 21) in an undefeated weekend for the Bears, who captured the championship at the TownePlace Suites Tip-Off at Messiah College. The sharp-shooter was on fire from beyond the arc, going 10 for 13 (76.9 percent) on 3-pointers in victories over Mount St. Vincent and the host Falcons, and added six rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block to his ledger.

Williams Jr. scored 14 points with four triples in Friday's 95-66 rout of the Dolphins and followed with a game-high 20 points to lead Ursinus past Messiah, 67-60, in the title game on Saturday. He was 6 of 7 from distance in Saturday's game, including two dagger treys that gave the Bears some breathing room in the closing minutes. Williams Jr. has made a 3-pointer in 15 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the CC.

Thanks in large part to Williams' red-hot shooting, the Bears are off to a 2-0 start for the first time in eight years. Looking to remain unbeaten, the men's basketball team opens conference play Tuesday night at Haverford.
