Knowles' Hot Stretch Merits CC Player of the Week Nod

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Junior guard Matt Knowles (Waverly, Pa./Scranton Prep) of the Ursinus College men's basketball team was named Player of the Week by the Centennial Conference.

Knowles averaged 22.3 points per game in an undefeated week for Ursinus (6-6, 2-3), which stretched its winning streak to four with victories over Eastern, Washington College, and McDaniel. The junior sharpshooter netted 20 in an 84-80 triumph at Eastern, including the eventual game-winning free throws in the closing seconds. He then supplied 18 points and a career-best five assists to help Ursinus to an 85-74 win at Washington College.

Knowles capped his prolific stretch with a career-high 29 points during Saturday's 81-67 defeat of the Green Terror. He was 9 of 14 from the field – 5 of 9 from 3-point range – and buried all six of his foul shots to surpass his previous personal best of 26, set in back-to-back December contests at Division I Penn and Rosemont.

Knowles has been on fire of late, averaging 21.6 points per game on 52.9-percent shooting over his last seven games to jump into the Centennial Conference scoring lead at 17.3 points per game. He has scored in double figures in nine straight outings, the second-longest active streak in the league. Knowles currently stands fifth in the CC in free-throw percentage (84.8), sixth in steals (14), and eighth in 3-pointers made (28).

The player of the week honor is the first of Knowles' career, and marks the first time this season that an Ursinus player was chosen.
