Men's Basketball pushes home win streak to eight

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Paced by junior guard Malik Draper's 14 points, the Ursinus College men's basketball team defeated Haverford 67-62 on Wednesday night.

Despite pushing their home win streak to eight, and remaining unbeaten at home in 2015, the Bears saw their chance at the Centennial Conference playoffs come to an end as Gettysburg defeated  F&M earlier in the evening.

Still, after starting the year 0-7, the Bears have now gone 10-7 and 7-6 in conference play.

Sophomore guards Matt Knowles and Steve Leonard each had ten points for the Bears, with freshman forward Remi Janicot grabbing 13 rebounds.

For Haverford, the Fords were led by 19 points off the bench from Walt Plumlee and 14 points from Matt Sherman.

It was a very tightly contested first half, as the Bears went up by nine points at 19-10 with 10:31 left on a layup by Leonard. Haverford then stormed back to tie the score on a 10-1 run and stayed within a bucket before taking its first lead at  25-24 with 5:57 left on a three-pointer by Plumlee.

The lead changed hands several times, before Ursinus took a one-point lead into halftime on a bucket by freshman guard Brian Rafferty with 39 seconds left at 33-32.

After taking a five-point lead 1:11 into the second half, Ursinus saw Haverford hang around within one point throughout the majority of the second half.

The Fords had a 62-61 lead with 1:59 left in the game, before Ursinus took the lead for good on a layup by Janicot with 33 seconds left. From there, Ursinus sank four straight foul shots to seal the win.

Janicot's 13 boards pushed the Bears to a 43-27 edge in rebounding.

Ursinus closes the season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip against Muhlenberg.
