Men's Basketball runs home win streak to six with win over Swarthmore

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus put all five starters in double figures as the Bears (5-8 Centennial, 8-12) remained red-hot at home with a 94-72 win over Swarthmore (4-9 CC, 7-13) on Wednesday night in men's basketball play.

The Bears got 21 points from junior guard Malik Draper and 20 points each from freshman forwards Remi Janicot and Joseph LoStracco in the win. The Bears shot 69 percent (20-for-29) from the field in the first half 75 percent (9-for-12) from three-point land in the first twenty minutes.

Sophomore forward Steve Leonard had 12, while freshman guard Matthew Alden had 11. Freshman guard Robert Rossiter scored eight points off the bench as well.

Draper's line also included seven rebounds, seven assists and four blocks and he did not turn the ball over. The Bears as a team only committed ten turnovers.

Swarthmore was led by a game-high 32 points from Zack Yonda, while Karl Barkley scored 11.

Trailing 4-3, Ursinus went on a 14-2 run to go up 17-6 with 15:51 to go on a foul shot by Alden. Leading 20-9, Ursinus saw Swarthmore get back to within three at 25-22 when Barkley hit a three-pointer with 9:43 left in the first half. That would be the closest the Bears would allow the Garnet to get, as Ursinus outscored Swarthmore 26-17 over the final 9:43 to take a 51-39 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Swarthmore would only get within nine points three times.

Ursinus had the edge in rebounding at 35-33, with Draper and Alden grabbing seven, while Andrew Kauffman had seven for Swarthmore.

Ursinus, who has won its last six at home, faces a tough test on Saturday as nationally-ranked Dickinson comes to Collegeville.
