Men's Basketball beats Rosemont, 58-56

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus sophomore guard Matt Knowles (Waverly, Pa./Scranton Prep) hit a three-pointer with just ten seconds left in the overtime, propelling the Bears (2-7) to a 58-56 win over Rosemont (3-7) on Saturday afternoon in men's basketball action.

Knowles hit his three-pointer from the right wing on a pass from freshman forward Remi Janicot (Princeton, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) as the Bears won their second straight.

Junior guard Malik Draper (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) scored a team-high 16 points, while Knowles finished with 12. Freshman forward Joseph LoStracco (Chalfont, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had ten points.

For Rosemont, who led for most of the game, the Ravens got 22 points from senior forward Dom Scafidi and ten points each from freshman guards Mekhi Clemons and Clayton Wolfe.

Rosemont had a 25-21 lead at intermission and led for a majority of the second half before Ursinus took its first lead of the game at 48-47 on a layup by Draper with 2:42 left. A slam dunk by freshman guard Matthew Alden (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) with 2:05 left gave the Bears their biggest lead at 50-47.

Wolfe hit a three-pointer with 1:25 left, which turned out to be the final field goal of the second half. Ursinus had a chance to win the game in regulation, but, LoStracco's shot was blocked by Scafidi and Janicot's putback came after the buzzer.

In the overtime, the Ravens scored the first four points to take a 54-50 lead on back-to-back buckets by Scafidi. A three-pointer by Knowles with 2:49 left in the OT got Ursinus back within one at 54-53. A layup by freshman guard Brian Rafferty (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) with 2:16 left gave the Bears a 55-54 lead, but, the Ravens took the lead back just 32 seconds later on a jumper by Clemons.

Despite turning the ball over 27 times, Ursinus had a commanding 43-24 lead on the glass with Janicot picking up 12. Rafferty had seven assists for the Bears.
