Men's Basketball falls to Widener, 78-63

CHESTER, Pa. – Despite leading for close to 20 minutes in the ballgame, Ursinus (0-5) saw Widener (5-1) pull away in the last seven minutes of the game in a 78-63 victory for the Pride Saturday afternoon at Delaware County.

The Bears, who led at halftime 32-30, got 16 points from sophomore guard Matt Knowles (Waverly, Pa./Scranton Prep) and junior guard Malik Draper (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) each, with sophomore forward Steve Leonard (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) scoring ten.

Widener was led by 20 points from Saradayah Sambo and 17 points from Mark Pryzbylkowski. The Pride got 11 points each from David Nicholson and Jermaine Kamara.

Ursinus sank 47.1 percent of its shots (24-for-51) with Draper making just over 50 percent of his shots (8-for-15).

The Bears led for most of the first half, taking their largest lead with 1:39 left in the opening half on a jumper by Knowles for a 31-23 lead.

In the second half, Ursinus had a four-point lead at 55-51 when Leonard sank a three-pointer with 8:45 left.

Five straight points from Nicholson on back-to-back possessions gave the Pride the lead for good at 56-55 with 8:09 left.

Draper finished with six rebounds for Ursinus, who hosts F&M on Tuesday night at 6.
