Men's Basketball drops CC opener to Johns Hopkins, 76-56

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – With four players in double figures, led by Jimmy Hammer's 20 points, Johns Hopkins (3-1, 1-0 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (0-3, 0-1 Centennial) 76-56 in a men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Curran scored 14 off the bench for the Blue Jays, with Austin Vasiliadis scoring 11 and George Bugarinovic adding in ten.

Ursinus was led by 16 points from sophomore guard Steve Leonard (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) while junior guard Malik Draper (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) scored nine.

Ursinus led just one time, as Draper scored the opening basket 1:07 into the game for a 2-0 lead. The Bears did hang around in the first half, getting to within four at 13-9 with 10:54 left on a jumper by freshman guard Robert Rossiter (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian).

Trailing 39-25 at intermission, Ursinus scored the first five points of the second half capped by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Matt Knowles (Waverly, Pa./Scranton Prep) with 19:03 left for a 39-30 deficit by the Bears.

The Blue Jays were a perfect 11-for-11 from the foul line and committed just eight turnovers in the win. Bugarinovic had three blocks in the win.

Ursinus had a 36-19 lead in rebounding, with freshman forward Joseph LoStracco (Chalfont, Pa./Archbishop Wood) getting eight, including seven offensive rebounds.

Freshman guard Brian Rafferty (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) had eight assists for the Bears, who will travel to Swarthmore on Saturday.
