Men's Basketball drops first game of D3Hoops.com Classic to Ramapo, 83-58

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Playing for the first time since December 10, the Ursinus College men's basketball team dropped their first game in the 2011 D3Hoops.com Classic to Ramapo by a 83-58 score at the South Point Arena.

The Bears (3-8) were led by junior forward Jon Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) who had 13 points, with sophomore guard Pat Vasturia (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace) adding in 11. Sophomore point guard Jesse Krasna (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) had 11 points. 

Ramapo (9-3), a 2011 NCAA Tournament participant and the preseason favorite to win the NJAC, was led by 27 points from junior guard Will Sanborn and 23 points from junior guard Jermaine Emanuel. The Roadrunners sank 12 three-pointers on the afternoon.

Ursinus led early, taking its biggest lead at 5-2 with 18:04 left to go. Ramapo would regain the lead shortly thereafter, but, Ursinus kept it close before Ramapo extended the lead to double digits at 24-12 with 7:38 left on a layup by senior forward Rich Grant.

Ursinus got back to within nine twice, the last time on a basket by freshman guard Trey Harry (Baltimore, Md./Hill School) with 1:21 left in the first half to make the score 38-29.

Trailing 43-29 at intermission, Ramapo scored the first nine points of the second half. The Roadrunners scored 25 points off of turnovers, and 26 points in the paint in the win.

Ursinus got 51 rebounds, with freshman forward Jermaine Kamara (Cork, Ireland) grabbing ten. Freshman forward Phil Walker (Sicklerville, N.J./Solebury Prep) added in nine rebounds.

The Bears play Friday afternoon at Skidmore on the final day of the Classic.
