Opening Night

ARLINGTON, Va. – Trailing by 11, the Ursinus College men's basketball team rallied in the second half to take a short lead but host Marymount (Va.) scored 11 straight points in a 1:38 span to hold on 65-58 over the Bears Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.

Ursinus was led by junior forward Jon Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) who had a game-high 21 points while sophomore Pat Vasturia (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace) had a career-high 18 points on the night. Sophomore point guard Jesse Krasna (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) had six points and a team-high seven rebounds. 

Marymount was led by freshman guard Jesse Konadu who had 20 points with sophomore forward Reed Scott going for 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Saints led wire-to-wire in the first half, with Ursinus coming within one two times, before Marymount went up 29-22 at intermission. 

In the second half, Ursinus trailed by 11 before the Bears went on a 14-4 run to go up 46-43 on a layup by freshman guard Trey Harry (Baltimore, Md./Hill School) with 8:22 left.

From there Marymount went on a 17-2 run over a 1:38 span to take a 60-48 lead and never looked back. 

Defensively, freshman forward Jermaine Kamara (Cork, Ireland) had five blocks in the collegiate debut.

Ursinus will take on Keystone Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Chuck Resler Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester.
