Men's Basketball falls short in loss to Gettysburg, 59-56

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Gettysburg College senior center Andrew Powers scored the go-ahead jumper with just 51 seconds left as the Bullets (8-6, 5-2 Centennial) eeked out a 59-56 win over Ursinus (5-9, 2-5 Centennial) on Thursday night in men's basketball play.

Powers also played in a role in Ursinus' final possession, as he drew a charge on Ursinus senior guard Matt Hilton (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) with just 1.8 seconds remaining on the right side of the baseline.

The Bullets scored the final four points of the game, as they rallied from an eight-point deficit midway through the second half.

For Ursinus, the Bears were led by sophomore forward Jon Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) who had 17 points with 11 points from Hilton. Freshman guard Jesse Krasna (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) had eight rebounds for Ursinus, who had a 30-29 lead on the glass.

Gettysburg got 17 from Powers, with junior guard Brendan Trelease scoring 14 and sophomore guard Larry Geedey netting 12.

The two team finished the first half knotted at 29-all, before Ursinus went on a 10-2 run to start the second half to go up 39-31 with 13:32 left on a jumper by Ward. Gettysburg would eventually rally to tie the score at 48-all and 53-all, before taking a 55-53 lead with 2:14 left on a basket by Powers.

Ursinus took its last lead at 56-55 on a three-pointer by Hilton. The Bears biggest lead came in the first half at 22-13 with 7:48 left on a layup by freshman guard Ryan Adams (White Plains, N.Y./The Hun School).

Ursinus travels to McDaniel on Saturday.
