Men's Basketball holds off McDaniel

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College sophomore forward Jon Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) nailed two foul shots with just over three seconds as the Bears (1-2, 1-0 Centennial) won their Centennial opener, and first game of the 2010-11 season, with a 63-61 overtime win over McDaniel (2-2, 0-1 Centennial) Tuesday night.

Ward's two foul shots capped a 21 point, 11 rebound performance for the sophomore, while senior guard Matt Hilton (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) had 14 points as the Bears held McDaniel to just 3-for-21 shooting in the first 20 minutes (14.3 percent).

However, despite trailing 29-18 at halftime, McDaniel was able to fight its way back into the game. The Green Terror took a 50-49 lead with 3:36 left on a jumper by Michael Jarboe. After Ward hit two foul shots with 2:43 left to put Ursinus back in front, Ward also hit a layup by 1:50 left to give Ursinus a 53-50 lead. Jarboe's three pointer with 1:32 left tied the game at 53-all, sending into the extra frame.

In the overtime, McDaniel was able to tie the score three times, including a 61-all tie with 30 seconds left on jumper by Tyler Rudd.

McDaniel was led by Devon Lesniak who had a game-best 23 points, with Jarboe chipping in with 11.

Ursinus enjoyed a slim 38-37 edge on the glass, with a 15-14 edge on the offensive side.
