F&M four better than Bears, 78-74

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall guard Georgio Milligan had a game-high 33 points as the tenth-ranked Diplomats (5-1, 1-0 Centennial) handed Ursinus (3-2, 0-1 Centennial) a 78-74 loss in men’s basketball play Wednesday night.

The game was the Centennial Conference opener for both teams, and featured two teams that have appeared in the NCAA Semifinals over the last two seasons.

Mike Baker added in 13 points for the Dips, while James McNally had 12.

For Ursinus, senior guard Remy Cousart (Philadelphia, Pa./Holy Ghost) had a team-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Freshman forward Kevin Janowski (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) had a career-high 18 points, with junior guard Matt Hilton (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) adding in 17 points.

As has been the case for the last five meetings between the teams, this game was decided by ten points or less.

With Ursinus leading 71-70 with 1:50 left in the game, Brandon Beckford hit a jumper with 50 seconds left to give F&M a slim 72-71 lead. Ursinus made a stop, but, Hilton’s three pointer with 35 seconds left missed. Anthony Brooks was stripped with 29 seconds left by Cousart, but, Cousart’s driving layup did not fall.

The Dips then sank two foul shots to go up 74-71, and the Bears could not get a shot off.

After trailing 6-1, Ursinus rallied to go up 13-12 with 15:16 left in the first half on a layup by Cousart. That would be the only lead Ursinus would have in the first half, as F&M went up by as much as ten points in the first half.

Trailing 41-34 at the half, Ursinus rallied to take the lead at 47-46 on a layup by Janowski with 16:01 left. However, the Dips would regain the lead, and then took a 57-51 lead with 11:15 left on a three-pointer by Milligan.

F&M held a 41-34 lead on the glass, with Brooks collecting seven.
