PREVIEW: Gymnastics Set to Compete at Regionals Saturday

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – For the first time March 2019, the Ursinus Gymnastics team will get to compete in a postseason meet with the NCGA East Regionals hosted by Springfield College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

ABOUT THE EAST REGION: The regional meet consists of all six schools in the region; SUNY Brockport, SUNY Cortland, Ithaca College, Rhode Island College, Springfield College & Ursinus College. The top three scoring teams at the regional meet will qualify, along with a certain number of individuals on each event and the all-around competition. The Bears enter the meet ranked fifth among the teams in the region with a SAS

 

Ursinus Rotation Order: 

Rotation 1: Floor

Rotation 2: Vault

Rotation 3: Bye

Rotation 4: Bars

Rotation 5: Beam

Rotation 6: Bye

 

All-Around: Junior Alyssa Delorme has already locked up a spot at nationals in the all-around with the second highest SAS in the region and fourth nationally, 37.8375. DeLorme set a school record this season on the bars with a 9.8 against West Chester back on February 27. She also posted her highest all-around score of the season with a 38.425 against the Golden Rams as well.

 

Vault: Ursinus ranks fourth into regionals for the vault with a SAS of 46.8438. The Bears posted a season-best score of 47.375 on the vault against Penn back on February 20. Senior Taylor Cusick posted the teams highest individual score on the vault this season with a 9.6 against Penn. DeLorme and junior Alex Panetta have both posted season-high scores of 9.5 for the event as well. DeLorme leads the team with a 9.4438.

 

Uneven Bars: The Bears have steadily improved on the bars this season as they rank third in the region for the event with a 46.6125. Ursinus posted a season-high score of 47.300 against West Chester at home. DeLorme ranks fourth in the east region for the bars, which would have locked her up a spot at nationals as well, and ninth nationally on bars with a SAS of 9.6563.  Senior Abigail Schwerdt has come on strong of late on the bars, posting a new career best score of 9.775 last week at Cortland following a 9.550 against West Chester.

 

Beam: Ursinus holds a SAS of 46.5000 on the beam which is good for fifth highest in the region. The Bears registered a season-high score of 47.050 for the event in their home meet against West Chester. First-year Madison Zimmerman is having a breakout season on the beam as she leads the team with a SAS of 9.375. Zimmerman registered a season-high score of 9.8 at Towson back on February 19th. DeLorme holds a SAS of 9.3250 and posted a career-best score of 9.750 at Towson. Senior Kaylin Knapsack has also posted a season-high of 9.750 on the beam as well.

 

Floor: The Bears posted their season-high of 47.575 on the floor in their very first meet of the season against Cortland, Ithaca, and Springfield. Knapsack holds the highest individual score of the season on the floor with a 9.8 in that very same quad meet. DeLorme once again holds the highest SAS on the team with a 9.5063 and posted a career-best score of 9.750 against West Chester.

 

UP NEXT: If the Bears finish with a top-three score tomorrow at Springfield, they will advance as a team to the NCGA Championships on March 26th at Ithaca.
