Gymnastics Registers Season-High on Vault in Strong Showing at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Competing against three NCAA Division I Programs, the Ursinus Gymnastics team put forth a strong performance filled with career and season best scores on Friday night at the Rutgers Quad-Meet. The team finished with an overall score of 185.400 as they performed alongside No. 17 Iowa, No. 29 Kent State, and the No. 44 host Scarlet Knights.

 

Headlining the meet for the Bears was a season-high team score of 47.200 on the vault. Ursinus recorded 46.650's on both the floor and the beam while posting a 44.900 on the uneven bars.

 

The Bears started the night on the beam and first-year Madison Zimmerman continued her breakout collegiate debut season by recording a new career-best 9.675. Junior Alyssa DeLorme also impressed on the beam as she registered a season-high mark of 9.600 while senior Kaylin Knapsack matched her season-high from last week with a 9.325. First-year Isabella Scarpetti improved her collegiate debut score from a week ago on the beam with a 9.150, besting her previous of 8.625.

 

On the floor, Knapsack dazzled with a team-high of 9.775 that just missed topping her career-high of 9.8 that was set in the Ursinus quad meet. DeLorme continued her strong night with a 9.5 while senior Taylor Cusick and junior Kasey Ricci each tallied a 9.150. For Ricci it was a career-best score and a .125 improvement from last week.

 

Ursinus made the most of the vault with Cusick (9.575) and DeLorme (9.5) powering the Bears to their season-high mark in the event. DeLorme set a new career-best with her score while Cusick matched her season-best tally from the Ursinus Quad Meet. Sophomore Carly Troilo topped her previous career-best score from last week at Springfield with a mark of 9.475 and Knapsack also posted a career-best score of 9.350. Zimmerman matched her score from last week at Springfield with a 9.3.

 

The night for the Bears concluded on the bars where first-year Megan Matteucci led the way with a season-best score of 9.250. Her classmate Adison Tanguay followed with a season-best of her own of 9.125.

 

DeLorme finished her all-around night with a total of 37.400, her second-highest mark of the season.

 

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, February 19th as they will travel to Towson and face the Tigers and West Virgnia at 6 p.m.
