Gymnastics Competes Against West Chester in Dual Meet

WEST CHESTER, Pa. –  The Ursinus Gymnastics team traveled to face West Chester in dual meet action on Saturday afternoon. After making their season debut last week, the Bears embarked on their first road trip since facing Temple back on March 8th, 2020.

 

 As a team, Ursinus posted a team total of 180.625 after recording scores of 46.025 on the vault, 44.350 on the bars, 44.050 on the beam, and 46.200 on the floor exercise. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams recorded a team score of 193.125 on tallies of 48.450 on the vault, 48.250 on the bars, 47.850 on the beam, and 48.575 for the floor exercise.

 

The Bears persevered on the afternoon despite numerous lineup changes due to COVID-19 protocols and injuries.

 

Senior Taylor Cusick once again spearheaded the Bears efforts on the vault as she posted a team-high score of 9.550, just missing topping her 9.575 from the Quad Meet a week ago. Junior Alyssa DeLorme finished second among the Ursinus gymnasts on the vault with a score of 9.400. First-year Madison Zimmerman made her collegiate debut on the vault and stepped up to record a 9.275, finishing third among the Bears. Senior Kaylin Knapsack and sophomore Ashley Cromer rounded out Ursinus on the vault with scores of 9.200 and 8.750, respectively.

 

First-year Megan Matteucci led the Bears on the Bars with a score of 9.125, topping her collegiate debut score of 8.950 from a week ago. Classmate Adison Tanguay also topped her collegiate debut score by posting a 9.000 against the Golden to finish second among the Bears on the bars. DeLorme placed third with an 8.975 while Kyleigh Pierce posted a score of 8.750 and sophomore Carly Troilo tallied an 8.500. First-year Isabelle Scarpetti made her collegiate debut on the bars and posted an 8.000.

 

Zimmerman continued to pace Ursinus on the beam as she posted a team-high score of 9.250 and finished fifth overall among the two teams. Cromer followed Zimmerman with an 8.950 and Cusick placed third among the Bears at an 8.850. DeLorme posted a score of 8.525 and junior Kasey Ricci stepped in following a last-minute lineup change to post a score of 8.475.

 

 Knapsack was strong on the floor for the second-straight week as she recorded a 9.650 to place fifth overall. Cusick capped her day with a 9.450 and DeLorme earned a 9.300 to complete her all-around score of 36.200. Cromer recorded a score of 9.200 in her floor collegiate debut and Ricci posted an 8.600 after stepping in again with lineup changes.

 

The Bears will return to action on Sunday, February 6th as they will compete in the Springfield Quad Meet alongside Ithaca and Yale at 1 p.m.
