Three All-Americans for Gymnastics

Three All-Americans for Gymnastics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Three Ursinus College gymnasts were recognized as regular season All-Americans by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA), the organization announced Wednesday.

Skylar Haas (beam), Kaylin Knapsack (floor), and Alex Panetta (bars) were honored for compiling a season-average score (SAS) that ranked in the top-four of the East Region in their respective events at the conclusion of the campaign.

Haas was one of the premier beam performers in Division III, posting a remarkable 9.7438 SAS to place second in the nation. At her best she dazzled, five times scoring at least a 9.6250 on the event, and her 9.850 during a tri-meet at Temple was the best single tally in the country. The senior is a two-time national qualifier who would have made her third NCGA individual championship appearance this season. The All-America honor is the first of her career.

Knapsack finished third in the region and fourth in Division III on the floor exercise, where her SAS matched Haas' beam mark at 9.7438. The sophomore was consistently sensational, posting at least a 9.550 on every routine with a high of 9.775 in a tri-meet at Ithaca; Knapsack's overall average of 9.688 is second only to Springfield's Tali Twomey.

Knapsack narrowly missed scoring All-America laurels on the beam, where she was the victim of a particularly strong region. Her overall average of 9.531 was good for third in the country, but her SAS (9.700) was fifth, and all four gymnasts ahead of her reside in the East Region.

Panetta was the Bears' best on the bars, seven times earning at least a 9.500 on the difficult event. The rookie's 9.6438 SAS was fourth in the East Region and sixth in the country. She notched a season-high 9.750 in a quad meet at Kent State late in the year.

Panetta is the first Ursinus rookie to secure All-America honors since Monique Brooks and Amanda Palladino in 2015.
