ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team sparkled on the beam in a quad meet at Ithaca on Sunday, taking first place in a field that included Division III scoring leader Brockport State.

The Bears did not score lower than a 9.475 on the way to a 48.325 on the beam, helping them register a final tally of 188.825. Brockport State finished second with a 187.725, while Ithaca was third (186.550) and Rhode Island College (177.900) rounded out the meet.

Ursinus, which came in ranked second to Brockport in season average score, produced the individual champion in three of the four events. Junior Alexandra Puryear led a spectacular group effort with a career-best 9.800 to tie for first on the beam, while freshman Skylar Haas marked a new collegiate best with a 9.750 that placed her in a tie for fourth. Junior Amanda Palladino notched a 9.675, and classmate Kaelin Ruoss logged a 9.625. Freshman Autumn Snape rounded out the beam contingent with a 9.475.

Junior Heather Brubaker was the top performer in the vault with a 9.575, and Ruoss (9.425) came in sixth. Sophomore Lindsay Rush marked a 9.375, her second-best total of the season. Freshman Eleanor LaFountain and Puryear each scored 9.325, with LaFountain falling a quarter-point shy of her collegiate best, set three times this year. Junior Kelsey Stewart was right on their heels with a 9.300.

Senior Lauren Chavis matched her personal best for the second straight meet with a 9.625 on the bars, tying for first place with Brockport's Maddie O'Braitis. Puryear recorded her second-best score of the year at 9.375 to land in third, and Rush garnered a 9.300 to place sixth. Ruoss tied for seventh with a 9.275.

Brockport produced the top two scorers on the floor exercise, but LaFountain was hot on their heels after a 9.550 that tied her for third; the rookie has logged at least a 9.500 on the floor in four consecutive outings. Brubaker continued her string of impressive routines with a 9.425. Haas and Stewart were given matching scores of 9.300, and freshman Breanna Couts posted a 9.225.

Puryear was the all-around champion with a combined tally of 37.225.

The nation's two highest-scoring teams will meet again in Collegeville next Sunday, when Ursinus welcomes Brockport to Helferich Hall for its final home competition of the season. The Bears will honor Jillian Casarella, Chavis, Allyson Getty, and Vanessa Scalora as part of pre-meet Senior Day festivities.
