Gymnastics Opens Season With WCU Dual

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team opened the 2017 season with a solid performance in a dual meet with West Chester on Thursday. The Golden Rams used a remarkable all-around performance by Majesta Valentine to post a 191.050-186.875 victory.

Valentine was impressive for West Chester, winning all four individual events to record a stunning 39.100 in the all-around. She scored 9.900 on the floor, 9.850 on the beam, 9.750 on the vault, and 9.600 on the bars. West Chester posted a 48.600 on the beam, a 47.850 on the vault, and 47.825 on the floor.

Senior Lauren Chavis led the way for the Bears with a score of 9.475 on the uneven bars, good for a tie for second place. Seniors Jillian Casarella and Vanessa Scalora tied for fourth with an even 9.400.

Junior Kaelin Ruoss turned in a strong effort in her first action in two years, registering a robust 9.750 to place third on the beam. Ruoss was the Bears' top performer in the vault, her 9.350 good for sixth place overall.

Casarella was impressive on the beam, notching a 9.600 to claim seventh. Junior Amanda Palladino was right behind with a 9.550, and senior Allyson Getty scored a career-best 9.425.

Junior Alexandra Puryear earned a team-high 9.475 to land in fourth on the floor exercise.

Several freshmen saw their first collegiate action. Courtney Pearson took seventh with a 9.325 on the vault, and Eleanor LaFountain matched that standing thanks to a 9.350 on the floor. Breanna Couts posted a 9.200 on the vault and a 9.150 on the floor, Skylar Haas collected a 9.225 on the vault, and Sabrina Tusavitz scored a 9.050 on the floor.

Ursinus returns to the floor on January 22 at Temple.
