Gymnastics Rolls Past Springfield in Regular-Season Finale

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team sent Kristina Steffenhagen out in style on Senior Day, recording a 48.225 on the beam en route to a 189.750-185.525 victory over Springfield. Steffenhagen, the lone member of the Class of 2016, led the way with a 9.800 on the beam to help the Bears shatter their previous season-best of 188.20 set last week at Rutgers.

Steffenhagen led a spectacular effort on the beam, with her meet-high 9.800 leading five Bears who recorded at least a 9.500. Junior Jillian Casarella was second with a 9.775, and sophomore Katherine Norris placed third on the strength of her 9.650. Sophomores Monique Brooks and Amanda Palladino logged matching 9.500 results to tie for fifth.

Brooks was the top performer on the vault, scoring a 9.550 to tie Springfield's Nicole Silva atop the leaderboard. Classmate Kelsey Stewart finished sixth with a 9.450, and freshman Lindsay Rush landed in ninth with a 9.300; sophomore Alexandra Puryear placed tenth on a 9.275.

Junior Lauren Chavis won the bars with a total of 9.700, while Casarella and fellow junior Vanessa Scalora each scored a 9.575 to tie for third. Palladino (9.400) finished sixth, and Stewart (9.350) came in eighth.

Brooks continued to sparkle on the floor, where her tally of 9.675 was the best of the day. Steffenhagen was right behind her with a 9.650, and Scalora rounded out the top five after a 9.425. Stewart (9.375) placed sixth, while sophomore Sydney Eckert scored an eighth-place finish with a 9.250.

The regular season in the books, the Bears now turn their attention to the NCGA East Regional, which takes place Sunday, March 6 at SUNY-Cortland.
