Gymnastics Posts Season-Best Score at Rutgers Quad

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team continued to test itself against premier competition Saturday night, taking on an all-Division I quad meet hosted by Rutgers. The Bears recorded their best team score of the season (188.200) against the host Scarlet Knights (195.075), Penn (192.400), and Temple (191.625).

Sophomore Monique Brooks was outstanding on the floor, where her 9.750 was good enough to tie with six others for fourth overall in a field of 24 gymnasts. Senior Kristina Steffenhagen was 19th with a 9.500, and sophomore Kelsey Stewart's 9.475 placed her in 20th. Freshman Jillian Falduto was 22nd with a score of 9.300.

Sophomore Alexandra Puryear registered a 9.725 on the beam, good for a tie for seventh overall. Junior Jillian Casarella and Steffenhagen tied for 13th with matching 9.625 scores, and the Bears' 47.900 topped Temple's 47.725.

Brooks tied for 12th on the vault with a 9.525, while Stewart (9.500) was 15th and Steffenhagen (9.475) landed in 16th.

Casarella was the Bears' top performer on the bars, registering a 9.550 to finish in a tie for 9th overall. Junior Vanessa Scalora notched a 9.450 to finish in a tie for 14th. Stewart finished 17th with a 9.375, while Puryear (9.325) was 18th.
