Gymnastics Defeated at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team had three individual champions in this afternoon's dual at Brockport, but the host Golden Eagles utilized a balanced effort to claim a 186.650-185.075 victory.

Sophomore Monique Brooks and senior Kristina Steffenhagen shared the vault title with matching scores of 9.500 for Ursinus. Sophomore Kelsey Stewart tied for fifth with a 9.350, and freshman Lindsay Rush scored 8.900 to place ninth.

The Bears boasted four of the top five gymnasts in the bars, where they posted a team score of 46.625. Junior Lauren Chavis landed in first with a 9.575, and classmate Jillian Casarella merited third with a 9.450. Sophomores Amanda Palladino (9.325) and Alexandra Puryear (9.300) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Junior Vanessa Scalora scored 8.975 to finish ninth.

Puryear followed with a first-place performance in the balance beam, her score of 9.600 outpacing Brockport runner-up Alexis Frakowski. Casarella wound up in fourth with a 9.450, and Steffenhagen was fifth at 9.350.

Steffenhagen and Brooks showed well in the floor exercise, the former taking second at 9.625 and the latter right behind in third with a 9.600. Junior Kelsey Jewell placed sixth at 9.500 and Stewart was ninth with a 9.025.

Ursinus welcomes Ithaca to Helfferich Hall for a dual meet on Sunday, January 24.
