Gymnastics posts second-best score of season against Penn

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- The Ursinus College women's gymnastics team closed its home schedule with a strong performance against the University of Pennsylvania, posting a score of 185.375. That score was their second best this season, coming at the right time as they head into ECAC's next Sunday in Cortland.

Junior Monica Durham (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) led all scorers with a 9.700 as she won the vault event.

Sophomore Kristin Aichele (Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Palisades) had a strong day on the beam with a 9.625 by finishing second, while senior Stephanie Schmidt (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) was second in the floor exercise at 9.675.

The Bears posted team-highs on the vault at 46.875, while going 46.275 on the beam, 46.150 on the floor and 46.075 on the bars.

Running down the scores, Aichele was second on the team on the vault at 9.450, while freshman Kristina Steffenhagen (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) was fifth at 9.250. She was tied for fifth overall with sophomore Riley Acton (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough).

Freshman Allison Patton (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was seventh overall on the vault at 9.225, with Schmidt taking eighth at 9.200.

On the bars, Durham was fifth overall at 9.572. Senior Erica Schnebel (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) had the second-best score on the team at 9.300. Sophomore Tianna Lettieri (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) and Acton tied for ninth at 9.125, while sophomore Jamie Hammell (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and sophomore Karina Marks (Lexington, Md./Great Mills) went 8.950 and 8.900, respectively.

On the beam, Marks was fifth at 9.350, followed by junior Megan Bolash (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) in sixth at 9.325. Durham posted a 9.250 with Steffenhagen getting an 8.725 and Schmidt at 8.250.

On the floor, Lettieri had a 9.225, followed by sophomore Adelaide Hurlbert (Inman, S.C./Spartanburg Day School) at 9.175. Durham went for a 9.050, followed by Steffenhagen at 9.025 and Marks at 8.625.

Durham finished with an all-around score of 37.575.
