Crowning A Champion

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Ursinus College sophomore Monica Durham (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) was named as the national champion on the vault, highlighting Ursinus' two day trip to the NCGA Championships hosted by Brockport this weekend.

In all, Ursinus crowned All-Americans in the beam, floor and an All-Around All-American during the event. Gymnasts who finish in the top 12 are awarded All-American honors.

Durham won the vault during day two of competition, finishing with a 9.6000. She had qualified for the finals with a 9.550 on Friday.

On the balance beam, freshman Kristin Aichele (Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Palisades) finished sixth with a mark of 9.4500. She had made the cut with a mark of 9.525 the night before.

On the floor exercise, junior Joanna Warren (Shakopee, Minn./Hopkins) finished ninth with a mark of 9.4750. She had qualified with a 9.600 the night before.

Warren also finished sixth in the All-Around competition the night before, finishing with a 36.975. She had a 9.200 on the vault, 9.075 on the bars, 9.100 on the beam and 9.600 on the floor.

Also competing during Saturday's event after making Friday's cut were: Aichele on the vault (13th, with 9.3250) and senior Danielle Michielli (Claymont, Del./Concord) on the beam (14th, 8.9000).
