Fighting Fourth

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team finished fourth overall at the 2012 ECAC Championships hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon. The Bears finished with a total team score of 184.700.

A total of three gymnasts were named All-ECAC, in addition, a total of 10 gymnasts were named as qualifiers for the NCGA Championships in two weeks at Brockport. Their selections were be verified on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears had strong performances on the floor finishing with a 47.475, on the vault with a 46.600, on the bars at 46.200 and on the beam at 44.425.

Starting with the floor, junior Stephanie Schmidt (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) finished with a team-high 9.700, while freshman Adelaide Hurlbert (Inman, S.C./Spartanburg Day School) had a 9.525. Senior Danielle Michielli (Claymont, Del./Concord) finished with a 9.475, with sophomore Monica Durham (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) posting a 9.400 and junior Johanna Warren (Shakopee, Minn./Hopkins) getting a  9.375. Schmidt, Hurlbert and Michielli were all named as individual qualifiers.

On the vault, Durham finished with a team-best 9.500, followed by freshman Kristin Aichele (Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Palisades) with a 9.475. Freshman Riley Acton (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) and Schmidt both finished with a 9.250 with senior Katherine Gelinne (Westfield, N.J./Mount Saint Mary's) getting a 9.125. Aichele, Acton and Schmidt were named as qualifiers for the NCGA in that event.

On the bars, Durham posted a 9.625, with Warren going for a 9.600. Junior Erica Schnebel  (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) had a 9.125, followed by Acton at 8.950 and junior Katie Lawver (Newmanstown, Pa./ELCO) had 8.900. Durham and Warren were both named All-ECAC, while Schnebel, Action and Lawver earning a bid to the NCGA Championships.

On the beam, Aichele got a 9.450, followed by Gelinne with a 9.225, Michielli with a 8.800 and Warren with a 8.550. Sophomore Megan Bolash (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) had a 8.400. Aichele, Gelinne, and Michielli were named as qualifiers, while Aichele was named All-ECAC.

In the all-around competition, Durham and Warren were both named All-ECAC for finishing in a tie for sixth at 36.575, marking their second All-ECAC selection of the day.
