Gymnastics finishes fourth at ECACs; Eight advance to NCGA Championships

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team finished fourth at the 2011 ECAC Championships hosted by SUNY-Cortland on Saturday afternoon with a total team score of 186.600.

Despite finishing fourth, eight members of the team advanced with at-large bids to the NCGA Championships on March 25-26 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Those athletes are: Jacki Clymer and Erica Schnebel on the bars, Erin Slaunwhite, Katherine Gelinne and Danielle Michielli on the balance beam, Stephanie Schmidt and Slaunwhite on the floor and both Johanna Warren and Monica Durham in the all-around.

The team scored its highest team mark on the floor exercise, with a 48.050. Schmidt and Warren both had a 9.700, with Michielli posting a 9.575. Andrea DeToro had a 9.550, followed by Slaunwhite at 9.525. Durham had a 9.400.

On the beam, which Ursinus had a 47.100, Slaunwhite posted a 9.650, with Gelinne taking a 9.600. Michielli had a 9.475, followed by Megan Bolash with a 9.400. Warren had a 8.975, followed by Durham with a 8.775.

On the vault, Ursinus recorded a 46.750. Durham had a 9.625, followed by Katie Lawver with a 9.325, Elle Kurz with a 9.300, Morgan Pepe with a 9.275, Warren with a 9.225 and Schmidt with a 9.150.

On the bars, which Ursinus had a 44.700, Clymer had a 9.100 followed by Durham with a 9.000. Warren had a 8.950, Schnebel had a 8.850 and Lawver had a 8.800.

Slaunwhite finished third overall on the bars, earning All-ECAC honors, with Durham finishing eighth overall on the vault. Gelinne, who also earned All-ECAC honors, with tied for sixth on the balance beam.

Schmidt and Warren were tied for sixth on the floor, which earned them All-ECAC honors.
