McIlhenny Nets National Honor

McIlhenny Nets National Honor

On the heels of her first Centennial Conference weekly award, Ursinus College senior Erin McIlhenny was honored as the Division III defensive player of the week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

The national recognition was a just reward for a spectacular performance by the fifth-year senior, who played a major role in the Bears' double-overtime victory at No. 6 TCNJ on Tuesday. McIlhenny equaled her own single-game program record with three defensive saves, all of which prevented the Lions from scoring a go-ahead goal. The last came with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, allowing Ursinus to get the game to overtime, where the Bears eventually walked off with a win on a goal by Jordan Moore.

McIlhenny added one more defensive save for good measure in the Bears' 6-0 rout of No. 8 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, giving her a conference-leading six on the year. She ranks fifth on the program's all-time charts with 13 career defensive saves.
