Field Hockey Recognized for Academic Success

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Ursinus College field hockey team and nine of its members were recently honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for their success in the classroom during the fall semester.

Ursinus received a National Academic Team Award, which recognizes programs that achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 in the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

Additionally, nine Bears were named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, which was announced on Thursday with 1,604 student-athletes making the list and 148 schools with representation. That list honors student-athletes who maintained a 3.30 GPA or higher during the fall semester.

Ursinus' National Academic Squad representatives included seniors Ann Kopera, Colleen Leahy, and Amber Steigerwalt; juniors Brooke Overly and Sydney Godbey; sophomore Bridget Sherry; and freshmen Gemma Dufoe, Anna Hall, and Erin Saybolt.

Kopera was recognized on the National Academic Squad for the fourth straight year.
