Steigerwalt, Torrence Selected for All-Star Game

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Ursinus College field hockey stars Amber Steigerwalt and Aliki Torrence were named to the roster for the 2016 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior Game.

The Bears' standouts were among 60 student-athletes selected for the contest, which will be held following the second national semifinal game at William Smith College on Saturday, November 19.

Steigerwalt and Torrence have combined for 158 starts over their four seasons in Collegeville, leading Ursinus to a 65-18 record and three consecutive Centennial Conference championships. The Bears, ranked 6th in the NFHCA Division III poll, will shoot for a fourth straight crown this weekend, when they serve as the host of the Centennial Conference championship tournament. The terrific tandem has guided Ursinus to at least one victory in three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including last year's march to the national semifinals.

Torrence, a three-time all-conference, three-time all-region, and two-time All-American selection, headlines a defense that has allowed only 19 goals in 18 games this season, good for 18th nationally in goals-against average (1.05). One of the premier backs in the country, Torrence has emerged as an offensive threat this season, registering four goals and three assists to tie for fifth on the team with 11 points. She has nine defensive saves in her career, good for sixth all-time at Ursinus.

Steigerwalt is one of the most prolific scorers in team and conference history. With 13 goals and five assists to her credit in 2016, the Bears' co-captain has upped her career totals to 54 goals and 26 assists, placing her sixth in school history in both goals and points (134); Steigerwalt is 10th in CC history in points and 13th in goals. Steigerwalt was a second team All-American and first team all-region performer a year ago and has twice been named to the All-CC squad.

Steigerwalt and Torrence were among five CC players selected to participate in the all-star game, including Muhlenberg's Emily Boyle and Rachel Strow and Franklin & Marshall's Bridget Falcone.

The selection of Steigerwalt and Torrence gives Ursinus six invitees over the past four years. Last season, Megan Keenan and Kelsey Reed were chosen to participate, but gave up their spots when the Bears made their run to the NCAA Final Four. With the NCAA Tournament on the horizon, Steigerwalt and Torrence will also hope to politely decline the invitation. The Bears' postseason journey begins Saturday, when they host Dickinson in the CC semifinals.
