11 Bears Named to NFCHA National Academic Squad

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Eleven members of the Ursinus College field hockey team were selected to the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Division III National Academic Squad, the organization announced Tuesday.

The award honors those student-athletes who achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.

Additionally, Ursinus earned a National Academic Team Award for achieving a minimum GPA of 3.00 during the fall semester.

Seniors Devin Brakel, Stephanie Cooper, Megan Keenan, Samantha Macchio, and Jordan Miller; juniors Ann Kopera, Colleen Leahy, and Amber Steigerwalt; sophomores Brooke Overly and Sydney Godbey, and freshman Bridget Sherry were all nominated for their academic achievements. Keenan and Miller joined an exclusive list by garnering the honor for the fourth straight year.

Three of the Bears' recognized student-athletes – Keenan, Sherry, and Steigerwalt – were NFHCA all-region selections this season, highlighting the program's tradition of success both on the field and in the classroom. Keenan (First Team) and Steigerwalt (Second Team) were All-Americans for an Ursinus squad that finished 19-4, won the Centennial Conference championship, and advanced all the way to the NCAA Final Four in 2015.
