Field Hockey upends Haverford, 6-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Two goals each from junior Devin Brakel and sophomore Amber Steigerwalt were more than enough, as Ursinus (10-1, 6-0 Centennial) defeated Haverford (5-6, 1-3 Centennial) 6-1 on Wednesday night in field hockey play.

Steigerwalt also added an assists for the fifth-ranked Bears, while junior Stephanie Cooper assisted on two goals on the night.

Junior Megan Keenan scored her 14th goal in the season two minutes into the second half, while junior Danielle Stong had a goal on a Keenan assist at 48:17.

Haverford got its lone goal with 12 seconds left on a Paige Carson tip in from a Catherine Aronowitz pass.

Steigerwalt got the scoring started at 3:50 on a shot from the center of the circle on a pass from Cooper, while Cooper assisted on Brakel's first goal at 10:55.

Steigerwalt scored her second goal at 18:21, with Brakel closing the scoring in the first half on a Steigerwalt assist at 34:30.

Urisnus did not allow a corner on the night, and had 15, while outshooting the Fords 30-4.

Junior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito had one save on the night, while Lindsey Lopes had eight saves for Haverford.

Ursinus starts a road trip on Saturday, with a matchup against Johns Hopkins.
