Field Hockey captures Snell Cup with 4-3 win over West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Ursinus College junior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scored with 27 seconds left in the contest, giving the Bears (9-1) a 4-3 win over West Chester (7-2) in the annual Snell Cup game on Sunday afternoon. The win marked the first win over the Golden Rams since October 10, 2010.

Keenan, who scored two goals on the day, got the game-winner on an assist by junior forward Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area). Stong also had a goal in the contest.

Keenan provided the only goal in the first half, scoring with just three seconds left before halftime.

Four minutes into the second half, sophomore midfielder Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored unassisted to give Ursinus a 2-0 lead.

West Chester got on the board at 43:07 when Mary Spisak scored unassisted, but, Ursinus went back up 3-1 when Stong scored on an assist by Steigerwalt at 44:17.

West Chester would tie the score at 3-all, on back-to-back goals by Rachal Toppi. Toppi scored her first at 50:50, then scored her second goal at 54:50.

Junior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpiritio (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made eight saves on the afternoon for the Bears, who host Haverford on Wednesday.
