Field Hockey Stays Hot Beating McDaniel, 9-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa - Winning their fifth straight game, sixth-ranked Ursinus handed McDaniel a 9-1 loss Saturday afternoon at Eleanor Frost Snell Field.

Nationally ranked Ursinus improves to 8-1 and remains undefeated (5-0) in the Centennial Conference. McDaniel drops to 6-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference. Over their five-game winning streak Ursinus has outscored their opponents by a 39-4 margin.

Seven of Ursinus' nine goals were scored by different players and six of their nine goals came off a corner.

Leading the Bears were junior midfielder Megan Keenan and junior forward Samantha Macchio with two goals each. Junior midfielder Kelsey Reed also starred with five assists on the afternoon.

Opening up the first half, Megan Keenan scored from Kelsey Reed and Danielle Stong off a corner at 1:44.

The Bears got back on the board at 9:49, when Macchio scored from a cross by Reed that deflected off defense.

Keenan notched her eleventh goal of the season off a corner assisted by Nora Kornfeld and Reed.

Finally Stephanie Cooper scored the final goal of the half at 21:32 off a corner to give Ursinus a 4-0 lead going into the half.

A string of three goals in the second half were scored within ten minutes from Macchino, Amber Steigerwalt and Stong giving the Bears a 7-0 lead.

McDaniel would score on a penalty shot from Bayley Vohs that went to the bottom left corner, out of the reach of goal keeper Danielle DeSpirito.

Seconds later Devin Brackel drove down the field and scored an unassisted goal making it 8-1.

Finally Catherine Buczek closed the game with a goal at 67:56 assisted by Kelsey Reed.

Ursinus will take the field tomorrow for the Snell Cup game against West Chester and return home on October 8th for their match against Haverford.
